National Reining Horse Derby
Head to the State Fair Arena each June to watch a Western riding competition at the National Reining Horse Derby. Watch the world’s top four-, five-, and six-year-old reining horses as riders guide them through a series of spins, stops, and circles. The equestrian competitions last one week each June. After cheering on your favorite horse and rider, walk the tradeshow floor where more than 50 vendors display their wares for sale including clothing, bronze sculptures, jewelry, Western rugs, cowboy hats, boots, and tack.
Free Sonic Summer Movies at The Myriad Gardens
Each Wednesday during summer months, the Myriad Botanical Gardens hosts a movie night for the family. Bring your blanket and chairs to grab the perfect spot on the lawn, and either bring a picnic or grab a bite from one of the many food trucks and vendors on site. Before the flick begins, enjoy pre-show activities such as crafts and characters, and kids ages four to nine can listen to story time on the Sheridan Lawn. The free event begins at 8 p.m., while the movie begins at 9 p.m.
