The table above takes a look at a few of the key differences in specifications between the two sedans. As you can tell, they’re quite comparable to one another. The Accord belongs to a slightly larger segment, as it is a midsize sedan whereas the Civic is a compact sedan, which explains why it’s heavier and offers a bit more trunk space. However, a heavier curb weight means it needs more power to do the same things as a lighter vehicle.

In other words, the 34 horsepower that the Civic gives up to the Accord isn’t quite as drastic when you take the weights of the vehicles into consideration. Upgrade the Civic to its more powerful engine, and that advantage nearly disappears. But, back to the engines in this comparison, fuel efficiency is almost a horse a piece. If you know that you’ll be doing more driving in the city, perhaps the Accord would make a better choice. But the 2-mpg difference isn’t going to offer a huge advantage one way or the other.
