How to Get the Germs Out of Your Car’s Cabin
- Scrub, Scrub, Scrub: Using soap and water or everyday disinfectant wipes clean the hard surfaces throughout your vehicle’s cabin. You don’t have to use antibacterial soap if you don’t have it on hand. Regular dishwashing soap or hand soap are effective in breaking down viruses and germs. When wiping down the hard surfaces be sure to hit the most commonly touched parts of your vehicle like interior and exterior door handles, locks, armrests, cupholders, knobs, the steering wheel, turn signal lever, wiper lever, mirrors, seat belts, and gear shifter.
- Focus on Fabrics: When it comes to cleaning, we tend to think only about surfaces. The truth is, though, that the fabrics in our vehicles can hold just as many germs. Use a cleaner that is appropriate for your vehicle’s fabrics and be sure to hit the carpet, seats, headliner, and backs of seats.
- Within Kid’s Reach: Think of where your kids can reach in your vehicle when you sanitize your car’s cabin. Kids can carry just as many germs as adults, so it is critical that you sanitize anything they come into contact with to protect them and yourself. Wipe down their car seat and buckles, windows, doors, rear-seat entertainment systems, and anything they keep in the vehicle. This includes books, stuffed animals, toys, etc.
- Stay Ahead of Germs: When cleaning the inside of your vehicle be sure to wear disposable gloves to help prevent spreading germs from your hands onto the freshly cleaned surfaces. It is also a good idea to regularly wipe down your vehicle with disinfectant wipes, especially those commonly touched surfaces.
