Currently, the state of Oklahoma does not have any requirements surrounding vehicle emissions testing. This means that you do not need to get an emissions test done to renew your registration, get vehicle insurance, or for any other reason.

Some areas throughout the US require that an emissions test be done periodically or at certain times in order to help reduce pollution or smog in the area. Often, states with vehicle emissions requirements will mandate that a test be performed in order to bring a vehicle into the state and register it. Urban areas most often require emissions testing due to the high population.  

Emissions tests check the cleanliness of your vehicle’s performance. The tests are aimed at checking to ensure your vehicle is not putting out an excessive amount of pollution into the air. These tests check that your vehicle is compliant with the requirements the Clean Air Act has set.
